This course
provides students with the necessary skills for success in college-level
writing courses.
Learning Objectives
At
the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Edit writing for correct grammatical usage, punctuation, and
mechanical conventions;
2. Use appropriate diction;
3. Use prewriting techniques to generate ideas for writing;
4. Use outlining to organize material for a writing project;
5. State a clear and suitable main idea for a paragraph;
6. Provide suitable supporting ideas and evidence to develop
a coherent and unified paragraph;
7. State a clear and effective thesis for a multiparagraph essay;
8. Write an effective introductory paragraph for a multiparagraph
essay;
9. Provide effective topic sentences to support the thesis and
control the development of a multiparagraph essay;
10. Provide adequate supporting ideas and evidence to develop main
body paragraphs in a multiparagraph essay;
11. Write an effective concluding paragraph for a multiparagraph
essay.

Requirements at
a glance
The most
important requirements are attendance and keeping up with the
assignments. Graded assignments include 4 paragraphs, 2
essays, a midterm and a final.
