CTP 120

Welcome to World Wide Web Publishing!

CTP 120 World Wide Web Publishing is a continuation from CTP 111 Introduction to HTML but it is not a coding course.  The purpose of this course is to develop skills in designing, implementing and maintaining accessible, usable, fully functional Web sites that meet the guidelines and standards defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and evidence-based research, using a systematic design process. The course describes the manner in which multimedia hypertext documents are made available using the World Wide Web (WWW) on the Internet. Presents fundamental terminology and technology. Students use Web Authoring software, including Adobe Dreamweaver, to create increasingly more complex WWW documents. New software programs that create WWW documents using a Graphical User Interface are presented. Students will create and manage WWW sites such as those used by an individual or small business. New features of the WWW will be presented. Lab fee $40. Note: Students must be familiar with personal computers before beginning the class because no lecture time is spent introducing personal computer terminology and use. Note: Section 875 is an online course and there will be no classroom instruction.

Prior to beginning this course, you should have a firm understanding HTML and or XHTML coding but it is not a requirement for this course.  You are also expected to understand and have the ability to create file directories for storing web content using Windows Vista or Window 7, 8,10 and or Mac OS.  If you are lacking in any of these areas, it is recommended that you obtain the skills prior to attempting this course.  Completion of CTP 111 is not a prerequisite for this course.

Participation in an online course requires good time management skills and self-motivation.  This is not a self-paced course.

Getting Started

This course uses the Canvas Learning Management System.  Canvas is password protected software that provides instructional support for this course.  In additional to presenting course materials, Canvas also supports communication facilities such as email, bulletin boards, and quizzes that will be utilized in this course.

CLASS Participation

You are required to post an introduction at the start of the semester so students can learn a little about each other.  The first chapter assignment is not accepted until your introduction is posted.  See the “Getting Started” directions under the Module link in Canvas.  In addition, students are required to make a post to the “Chapter Posts” topics in the Chapter folder as part of the chapter assignment grade.

Links to various course components are available via the Modules link on the left side of this page.   To begin, examine each link to become familiar with the course site layout.

  • Home Link .  Homepage of the course.  Here you will find the various modules and course resources.
  • Calendar link.  All course related dates will be displayed on the Calendar including lab due dates, Quiz availability, and Examination dates.  The Calendar is viewable either in grid format or as a list.
  • Modules link.  This is where you will find the materials for the course: Learning Modules, Lab Assignment specifications, and Quizzes.  Each Learning Module contains a list of the objectives for the module, and links to all related materials such as learning activities (lectures) and  corresponding assessments (lab assignments and quizzes) for the module.  Therefore, most materials may be accessed two ways: through the Learning Module and through the Module link category.
  • Syllabus link.  A link to the course syllabus is found here as well as a link to this page.  Links to external resources are included here.  You will find course related links (links to other sites) and AACC supported links.
  • Thoroughly review the syllabus and print.  All due dates and course requirements are stated in the syllabus.  Dates are approximate and may be revised during the semester.  Actual due dates and reminders will be posted on the course announcements area.
  • Discussion link
    • All communication should be through the Canvas email utility.  Lab Assignments will be submitted via the drop box.
    • To modify your Canvas profile, click on your name then select" Edit Profile".   On the Profile page, you can set your personal Information which includes contact settings, alternate email, homepage reference, and upload a photo.
    • Course Announcements will be repeated here.
  • Please note that in order to successfully complete this course you must contribute to the design and turn in your web address(containing your pages) for the final class project using the course drop box. The final website is your final exam.

Now you are ready to begin!  Please note: you may not be able to access some of the course materials until the first day of class.

  • Please review AACC's Academic Integrity Policy.  Participation in this course assumes the acceptance of this policy.

Course Materials
Text-based learning modules will be presented online.  A reference book on Java such as the text listed below is strongly recommended.

Text: Sherry Bishop, Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud Revealed Cengage Learning, 2014.

Software: Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud for Windows and Mac OS X will be used. The Mac OS X version may have some differences in the appearance of certain dialog boxes.

You must secure access to the required Dreamweaver Creative Cloud software, for the duration of the semester. You can purchase the educational version or you can use the computers in the labs (CC – Master Collection – in CALT 204 this semester).

Please Note:

You must secure access to the required Dreamweaver Creative Cloud software, for the duration of the semester (19.99 for 3 months =$59.97). Total Cost can be $239.88 for the entire year, if you choose to get it. You can see the various plans at:

https://creative.adobe.com/plans

You can purchase the educational version or you can use the computers in the labs (Creative Cloud– Master Collection – in in CALT 204 this semester).

Please note that the latest version of Dreamweaver CC looks very different from the illustrations in your Textbook Illustrations-the publisher has not been updated the text for this Software.

We have open lab times from 7 am to 10 pm M-Th. and from 8 – 5 on Fridays, and then 9-2 on Saturdays. You will need outside access to the programs.

The main option for securing your copy of Dreamweaver Creative Cloud is to rent or least the software. Adobe allows you extend your trial version on a month-to-month basis. If you do not want to buy the software Adobe will let you extend your 30 day trial on a month-to-month basis at a fraction of the cost.
Can I extend the trial period longer than 30 days?

Adobe now offers month-to-month and one-year subscriptions for most individual Adobe applications. In addition, Adobe now offers membership in Adobe Creative Cloud, which gives users ongoing access to most Creative Suite applications. This means you can continue to use your application on a month-by-month basis for a fraction of the full purchase price. Learn more about CS subscription editions. A single application is $19.99 per month.

  1. LOGIN to www.adobe.com
  2. When the page appears, there will be 6 tabs on top. Click on the "Product Trials" tab.
