Introduction to Project

Please be advised that this project can be about any topic that interests you. It can also be about countries as well. I would like you to be able to make planning decisions based on the potential needs of clients. So be creative and choose a topic of interest.

Now that you have had some familiarity with web design and development, it is time to refine your thoughts by writing the Mission Statement. It must state specifically what the site can and will do. It may be a short one-sentence statement, or it can be longer and more descriptive. It should be not longer than a short paragraph.

The next step is to create a storyboard. The focus is not on developing entire pages but instead on developing an informational structure that will facilitate communication. The storyboard must show how all of the pages are interrelated and the information to be displayed on each page. Since the site must contain information from at least four countries, there must be a minimum of 10 web pages (homepage, 2 pages for each country, and a form that will be created as part of a future assignment). Microsoft Word may be used to create the storyboard / Hierarchy Chart. ( you will need to download realplayer to hear your instructions) Create two versions of the storyboard.

Once the storyboard has been completed create two designs for the homepage (the first page users see when coming to your website). These sample pages can also be created in Microsoft Word. You might want to look at the sample sites to determine the grid layout and design schemes that would be most appropriate for your site.

Homepages must contain+
- Title
- Mission Statement
- Content that will make the user want to stay and explore your site.
- Text that will become an email link

Seek the assistance of two reviewers to evaluate the two storyboards and two sample home pages. The reviewers can be fellow web site development students, someone from industry, or a member of target audience. Have them evaluate your two storyboard and homepage designs.

Based on their suggestions and your knowledge, modify the most functional diagram and the most effective homepage.

Submit these as part of your final proposal. Include a narrative of at least 300 words. It must include the following:

Mission statement
Reviewer's names
Reviewer's qualifications (fellow student, professional web designer, member of the target audience, etc.)
Reviewer's comments
Rationale for your final choices.

On Campus Students:

Submit paper copies of the final and the two original storyboards and homepages. (A total of 6 documents). These can be done with paper/pencil, Microsoft Word, or other software that lends itself to this application (for example, Microsoft Visio)
Submit the one-page, word- processed narrative giving the review team information and the rationale for the final design.

Professor Waterman's On Campus Students

The due date is March 21st at the beginning of class
Submit, in class, the following items stapled together
1. Top: Copy of the grading sheet with your name, class, and section#
- 2 sheets with original story boards
- 1 sheet with revised, final storyboard.
- 2 sheets with original homepages
- 1 sheet with revised, final homepage
Bottom: One-page, word-processed narrative giving the review team information and the rationale for the final design.

Online Students:

Assignment (30 Points)
Create a screenshot of the each storyboard and homepage (Alt-PrintScreen). Paste them into PhotoPlus 6.0or MSPaint and save them as a gif file. If you prefer, create them with paper and pencil and then scan the documents and submit the scanned files . When scanning use black and white to reduce the file size (I used Lineart B/W and 300dpi). Name the files

  Note: You will need to do the Upload | Browse | Upload process six times so that all of the graphic files are uploaded before submitting the assignment. The file names for all six files must appear in the gold "Student Files" table. Only then should the assignment be submitted for grading.

Copy/Paste the proposal with the mission statement, reviewers' names, their qualifications, their comments, and the rational for your final choice into the text box in the Assignment area.
