Science Tutoring Center (STC)

Free tutoring by faculty members is available in the Science Tutoring Center (STC) located in room 5 of the science building. This tutoring is available on a walk-in basis, whenever the Center is open. No appointment is necessary.

Many laboratory materials, including microscopes and prepared slides, anatomical models, and bones are also available in the STC.

The exact operating hours of the Center vary each semester. The present schedule is shown below.

Biology Open Labs

In addition to the Science Tutoring Center, several Open Labs are held each semester in biology laboratories in both the Science building and the Florestano building for students who want to review laboratory materials. Biology faculty are available to tutor and answer questions. The Open Labs are not to be used as make-up labs or to conduct experiments. They are designed for students who need additional time to review prepared materials such as slides, models, or dissections.

The schedule for Open Labs varies from semester to semester. The schedule for the current semester is shown below.

Online Science Tutoring Center (OSTC)

Cyberprofessors (faculty currently teaching the courses on campus) are available for live chats, and also may provide review materials, links to other useful web sites, etc.   Only certain courses are targeted each semester, and each course has different features accessible through the OSTC.  All students registered for the targeted courses have access to the OSTC.

Go to the OSTC Information page for more details about how to access the OSTC, a list of courses and features available for the current semester.

Science Computer Lab (updated 29 January 2010)
The Science Computer Lab is in Room 120 of the Dragun Science building (410-777-6370).  The lab has about 20 computers equipped with software to support a variety of science courses.  Internet access is also available.  You may use these computers during Computer Lab open hours, when a lab technician is present.

Open Hours for Spring 2010:

Monday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Tuesday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Wednesday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Thursday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Much of the science-related software is also found in other computer labs on campus, particularly in the Library.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) (updated 15 February 2010)

A student leader, who previously had been successful in the courses, directs several sessions each week, reviewing material covered in class and involving students in activities to enhance understanding and retention of that material.  The free S.I. sessions are available to all students enrolled in the course.

Supplemental Instruction is available for the following Spring 2010:
