Welcome

This course provides students with the necessary skills for success in college-level writing courses. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Edit writing for correct grammatical usage, punctuation, and mechanical conventions;

2. Use appropriate diction;

3. Use prewriting techniques to generate ideas for writing;

4. Use outlining to organize material for a writing project;

5. State a clear and suitable main idea for a paragraph;

6. Provide suitable supporting ideas and evidence to develop a coherent and unified paragraph;

7. State a clear and effective thesis for a multiparagraph essay;

8. Write an effective introductory paragraph for a multiparagraph essay;

9. Provide effective topic sentences to support the thesis and control the development of a multiparagraph essay;  

10. Provide adequate supporting ideas and evidence to develop main body paragraphs in a multiparagraph essay;

11. Write an effective concluding paragraph for a multiparagraph essay.

Requirements at a glance

The most important requirements are attendance and keeping up with the assignments.  Graded assignments include 4 paragraphs, 2 essays, a midterm and a final.

Getting Started

Resources

The AACC Writing Center offers help at every stage of composing your paper.   These services included in your tuition and fees, so get what you are paying for!  The Writing Center is located in Library 105; hours are M-Th 9-8:30, F 9-4.
